Born on 2 November 1919, Alfred Grislawski became one of the Luftwaffe’s leading aces of WWII. He had been credited with 133 victories by the end of the war, this tally being achieved in over eight hundred missions. Only twenty-four of these victories were scored on the Western front, the rest coming on the Eastern front against Russia. In his career as a pilot, he was also shot down no less than eight times, being seriously injured in the final incident in 1944. Even before he reached his twenty-fifth birthday, he had been awarded with Oak Leaves to his Knight’s Cross.
