The M3 is an American tank from the World War II Era used with British and Commonwealth forces prior to the entry of the USA into the European Theatre. The name Stuart comes from J.E.B. Stuart from the American Civil War, and was used on both M3 and M5 light tank models. The M3 replaced the M2 by American tank designers when they realized the M2 had outlived its service. The M3 and M5 sport upgraded armor and weaponry, and in the M5 model the drivers hatch was moved to the top turret.
A light tank designed for American and Allied forces, serving in multiple theaters of WW2. Nicknamed the "Honey" for its quickness and dependability, it was nonetheless underarmored and undergunned. Tanks like the Staurt eventually took a secondary role to medium tank battalions, serving as recon and screening units.
